Will This Mattress Fit My Bed? A Compatibility Checklist

Matching the label—Queen, King, or Eastern King—is only the first step. A complete sleep setup must also match the bed's support system and height.

Confirm the exact size

Standard U.S. Queen is approximately 60 by 80 inches; Eastern King is approximately 76 by 80 inches; California King is approximately 72 by 84 inches. Never assume King means California King.

Platform or foundation?

A platform bed may support the mattress directly when slats are closely spaced and center support is adequate. Traditional frames may require a box spring or foundation. Follow both the bed and mattress warranty requirements.

Check total height

Add the platform or foundation height to the mattress profile. A tall mattress can cover too much of an upholstered headboard or make it difficult to get into bed. A low-profile foundation can correct the scale.

Adjustable bases

Verify that the bed has sufficient internal clearance and no fixed storage or support structure that conflicts with the base. Some platform beds can surround an adjustable base; others cannot.

Delivery path

Mattresses bend differently by construction, while foundations and bed rails may not bend at all. Measure stairs, corners, elevators, and the room before ordering.
